Conflict of Interest Policy

Last updated: February 5, 2026

This policy outlines how Jusan Science manages conflicts of interest to maintain the integrity, transparency, and impartiality of the editorial and peer review process.

1. Purpose of the Policy

The purpose of this policy is to maintain the integrity, transparency, and impartiality of the editorial and peer review process.

Conflicts of interest (COI), also known as competing interests, can arise when professional judgment concerning a manuscript is influenced by secondary interests, such as financial, personal, or institutional relationships.

2. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest occurs when an individual's objectivity or integrity in the research or editorial process could be compromised, or perceived to be compromised, by:

  • Personal or professional relationships with individuals or organizations involved;

  • Financial gains or losses that may influence judgment;

  • Institutional affiliations that may bias judgment;

  • Intellectual competition or rivalry;

  • Political, religious, or ideological beliefs influencing the evaluation of research.

3. Responsibilities

a. Authors

Authors must declare all potential conflicts of interest related to their submitted work.

A "Conflict of Interest Statement" must be included in the manuscript before submission.

If there are no conflicts, authors must state:

"The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest."

b. Reviewers

Reviewers must decline to review a manuscript if:

  • They have worked with the authors in the past three years;

  • They have direct financial or personal relationships with the authors or institutions involved;

  • They have competing research or intellectual interests that may bias the review.

Reviewers must notify the Editor immediately if a potential conflict is discovered after accepting the review.

c. Editors and Editorial Board Members

Editors must recuse themselves from handling a manuscript if:

  • They have a personal or professional relationship with the author(s);

  • They are affiliated with the same institution;

  • They have a financial or academic interest in the outcome of the publication.

In such cases, the manuscript will be reassigned to another independent editor to ensure impartial review.

4. Funding and Sponsorship Disclosure

All authors must clearly indicate:

  • The source(s) of funding supporting their research;

  • Whether the funders had any role in study design, data collection, analysis, or publication decision.

Example statement:

"This research was funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Grant No. BR1111 or AP2222). The funders had no role in study design, data collection, analysis, or decision to publish."

5. Editorial Transparency

Jusan Science Publisher ensures that:

  • Editorial decisions are made solely on scientific merit;

  • Editors and reviewers act independently of commercial or political influence;

  • Any potential COI among editorial board members is publicly disclosed on the journal's website when relevant.

6. Management of Conflicts

If an undisclosed conflict of interest is identified after publication, the journal may issue:

  • A correction;

  • An expression of concern; or

  • A retraction, depending on the severity.

COPE guidelines will be followed in all such cases.

7. Reference to Ethical Standards

This policy follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
